These are some of the top tips that we think will help you be able to succeed in the voiceover industry. They are from industry experts who have worked in the industry and know how it works. They can help you maintain your voice, make you feel confident with yourself, and help you make those last minute preparations for an audition.
- Don’t slouch. Slumping your shoulders doesn’t just make you look disinterested, it actually affects your voice as it stops your lungs from filling up. When recording a voice clip, make sure you’re sitting up straight in order to get the maximum airflow.
- Haven’t got a computer handy but want to hear how you sound? Why not call yourself at home and leave a voicemail. That way you can critique yourself and hear how you sound before laying down that all important audition.
- To keep your voice in top shape, stay away from dairy, caffeine, liquor and smoking immediately before recording your clip, as they damage the quality of your voice.
- Try taking a few ‘Vocal Naps’ during the day. Try to rest your voice and not talk, allowing it to rest and it reduces the chance of you straining it later in the day when you have to talk more.
- Try humming as a way to warm up your voice in the morning after a good nights rest. It warms up the voice, getting it ready for whenever it’ll be needed later in the day.
